  • Increase public awareness of knifemakers, not as makers of weapons, but as skilled and versatile craftpersons producing high quality implements which happen to be knives.
  • Introduce handmade knives to more of the buying public and encourage the productive use and collection of handmade knives.
  • Provide, through newsletters and meetings, a forum for the exchange of techniques and ideas between all makers so we can all grow to our full potential in our craft.

Knifemaker Feature

Name: Don Halter
Company Name: KragAxe Armoury
Website: http://www.kragaxe.com
Bio: Howdy! I began making bladed items around 1989. These were mostly crude grindings from old files. I started college and quit for while, then picked it back up about 1994 about the time I started gradschool. This was infrequent and I started with just stock removal and finally began forging in 1999. I'm now hoplessly addicted and seem to spend a large amount of time on a "part-time hobby". I'm very active in the medieval re-enactment groups and focus most of my bladework on historical blades. Viking/Saxon seax blades with pattern welded cores are my favorites. I've also started doing traditional Japanese blades, mainly tantos, and tradeknives along with my new-found blackpowder artillery hobby. Check out my site for more information and examples of my work.
